As this region braced itself for the overnight gales, the first signs of the storm heading our way reached the south west of England.
High winds were whipping up heavy seas on the Cornish coast on Sunday – providing a foretaste of what the rest of the country can expect at the start of the week.
The storms had not yet reached their height at the time pictures were taken on the harbour at Porthleven, but the country was braced for the worst as the winds became stronger.
