A bid to help shape the future of a community is gathering pace with those spearheading the project now preparing to draw up an action plan of people’s views.

The Wickham Market “Town Team” has completed its survey of residents, businesses and visitors.

Some 770 people handed in questionnaires on a range of issues including shopping, traffic and parking, facilities and key developments.

The town team’s Colin Owens said: “We had lots of interesting comments and ideas, and a lot of support and interest in the whole initiative. We would like to thank everyone who participated.

“The next step is to review and analyse the results and draw up an action plan.”

Issues to be addressed include shops and facilities, events, traffic and parking, redevelopment of the village hall, vandalism, communications and a business forum.

The questionnaires were gathered by Action for Market Towns, which has produced a 260-page report.

The Village Hall committee will take forward that building’s redevelopment but for the other issues individual groups will be set up to scrutinise the survey results in detail.

“Membership of these groups is not restricted to the town team and people from across the village are invited to participate in any that are of interest,” Mr Owens added. Email townteam@wickham-market.org.uk or telephone 01728 747782.
