A woman was airlifted to hospital today after a crash in which three other people were also hurt.
Four people had be cut of a car by firefighters a two-vehicle crash in Great Horkesley.
The air ambulance was sent to the scene following the head-on collision, which occurred at around 8.50am.
A grey Volkswagen Golf and a white Vauxhall Corsa collided on the A134 Nayland Road, near the Rose and Crown Hotel.
The Essex Fire and Rescue Service said fire crews used specialist cutting equipment to free at least three female casualties.
Paramedics treated the injured at the scene and the air ambulance was called.
Three of the casualties were taken to Colchester General Hospital by ambulance with what were described as minor injuries.
The female driver of the Corsa was airlifted to the same hospital. She is said to have sustained serious, but non life-threatening, leg injuries.
A section of the road remains closed, but is expected to re-open around lunchtime.
