Ipswich Town kicked of their 2013/14 Championship campaign with an unfortunate 2-1 defeat at Reading.
Former Royals midfielder Jay Tabb returned to his former club and scored within 16 minutes to give Ipswich the lead, and the Blues looked to be heading into the break a goal to the good.
However, the unlucky Tyrone Mings, who had been injured earlier in the game, scored an own goal on the stroke of half-time, before Danny Guthrie’s deflected effort beat Scott Loach with 15 minutes to go to give Reading all three points.
The game saw a full debuts handed to summer signing Cole Skuse, as well as Tabb, David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy – all former loanees – who made their maiden appearances as contracted Town players.
