Tributes have been paid to a “popular” and “lively” man by one of his former teachers.

Charlie Cockett, 25, of Ash Drive, Eye, died after the motorbike he was riding was in collision with a truck on Monday.

The collision happened at about 4.50pm along Cratfield Road, Fressingfield and involved a Honda motorbike and a Leyland DAF truck.

He sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, but died later that night.

Charlie had studied GCSE music while he was at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham.

His teacher Richard Hanley said: “He was a fine saxophone player and also had a flair for IT as well. They were the two things that he excelled in while he was here.

“He was quite a character – he was lively – and everyone is very sad that this has happened. It’s very tragic. He was popular amongst his peers.”

He said Charlie particularly enjoyed playing jazz music.

Tributes have also been made on the social network sites Twitter and Facebook.

Writing on Twitter, Jess said it had been a “sad, sad day to lose a lovely guy like Charlie”.

Sophie Phillips said: “My thoughts go out to the Cockett family and friends.”

Charlie had also spent two years studying at Stradbroke High School. He leaves behind family including his wife Emma and his brother Peter.

Flowers have been left at the scene of the accident. Prue Rush, chairman of Fressingfield Parish Council said the crash happened on a country lane.

She said: “It’s not an area we know to be a blackspot – there has been no flagging up saying it’s dangerous.

“We will take advice when and if there is any, but at the moment it is a tragedy that this has happened in our village, and we’re terribly sorry for the family and friends.”

The road had been closed in both directions for most of Monday evening while a police investigation was carried out.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area of collision that saw the two vehicles.

Calls should be made to police on 101.
