A FORMER primary school teacher turned artist is preparing to showcase her work.
Elaine Nason from Laxfield is holding an exhibition at The Little Gallery in Market Place, Halesworth.
Colin Huggins, who owns the venue with his partner, Mary Gundry, said: “Elaine is a figurative painter working in oils and watercolour. Her subject matter is chiefly concerned with the human figure, interiors and still life, in which she attempts to convey her interest in the everyday and commonplace.
“Composition, pattern and space are important considerations in her work. Linocuts and monoprints follow the same themes.”
Elaine was born in Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex and trained at Colchester School of Art in the 1950s, where the principal, John O’Connor, began her interest in printmaking.
She went to teacher training college and taught in primary schools in London and Suffolk from 1963 to 1999, with responsibility for art.
She has continued painting from that time, exhibiting widely in East Anglia and is a member of the Suffolk Group and Artworks.
Her latest showcase runs from April 27 until May 25, Monday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm.
Work by the gallery’s two owners will also be on display at the exhibition.
