A WOMAN in her 60s is fighting for her life after she fell and suffered a serious head injury near to a busy road in Ipswich on Thursday.
Paramedics and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were mobilised to the scene in Norwich Road, close to the junction with Bramford Road, when the incident was reported at about 11.55am.
She was treated at the scene and she was reported to be conscious and breathing before she was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
Her condition was described as critical by ambulance bosses.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “She suffered a traumatic head injury and she was flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
“Her injuries could be potentially life threatening.”
Ambulance chiefs could not confirm how the woman fell but it is understood that she hit her head on a kerb. Part of Norwich Road, a busy route into Ipswich, had to be closed off to traffic while paramedics treated the woman and the air ambulance landed.
