Ladies netball team Needham Lakers are jumping for joy in their stylish new kit.

The team has managed to secure a sponsorship deal, worth £500, from Volkswagen Wolsey Van Centre, a Volkswagen commercial vehicle centre based at Sproughton Road, Ipswich. The sponsorship money has been used to buy a new kit for team members.

Gemma Groom, service advisor at Wolsey Van Centre, founded the team more than 10 years ago with friends and relatives. Since forming it has progressed from the ranks of Division 8 to Division 3 of the South Suffolk Netball League.

Gemma, Lakers joint team captain, said: “Sponsorship deals are extremely hard to come by, especially at the moment, and this is why we are so grateful to Wolsey Van Centre. After wearing mismatched men’s polo shirts for many years the team are very excited to get a kit that they can be proud to wear.

“The team provides ladies with an opportunity to compete in the local netball league, keep fit and meet like-minded sporty ladies in the area.

“I am very proud that my employer has stepped in and supported the team and we all look forward to showing off the new kit on the netball court this season.”

David Nichols, head of business at Wolsey Van Centre, said: “As a local business, it’s vital we support the local community. The fact that Gemma is an employee at Wolsey Van Centre is an added bonus.

“Everyone at Wolsey Volkswagen Van Centre wishes Gemma and the team every success for the rest of the season.”
