FORMER Foreign Secretary David Miliband visited Colchester last night on one of his final political engagements in Britain before moving to New York.
Mr Miliband was the guest speaker at Colchester Labour Party’s gala dinner held at the Firstsite building, where he was due to address a 110-strong audience.
Labour councillor Tim Young said the group felt “privileged” to host Mr Miliband weeks before he moves to the US to become President of the International Rescue Committee.
Mr Young said: “Mr Miliband has obviously remembered the great reception he received when he last came to Colchester in 2010 and this is a fantastic boost for us in the build-up to the local elections.
“There’s no doubt him going to New York is a loss for British politics but he is young enough to be able to return and I’m sure he’ll be back to support his brother during the general election in 2015.”
