AN ESSEX musician has awakened the spirit of one of his home town’s most notorious former residents for a forthcoming double album.
Kevin Pearce, of Manningtree, follows up his 2011 debut Pocket Handkerchief Lane with a “dark and haunting” collection of songs on Matthew Hopkins and the Wormhole.
Teaming up with past collaborator Dean Honer, Pearce set out to juxtapose his acoustic sound with the I Monster producer’s electronic style on the two-act record, named after the “Witchfinder General” of Civil War-era England.
Inspiration for the album came over a few drinks at the Mistley Thorn, which stands on the site of an older pub where Hopkins tried dozens of local women during the English Civil War.
The album is to be released in July but launched at Colchester Arts Centre on April 10, with tickets available via the box office.
