CAMPAIGNERS trying to save a village railway station from the bulldozers are to be invited to meet parish councillors to discuss their ideas for creating a new community hub.
Trimley St Mary Parish Council wants to meet the Trimley Station Community Trust before giving a commitment for financial support.
When setting last year’s budget councillors were told �5,000 might be required to help with initial costs of the project.
The trust is trying to raise �250,000 to turn the 121-year-old Victorian station and brake goods store – the last surviving Great Eastern country station – on the Ipswich to Felixstowe line into a cafe, information centre, offices and meeting room.
It has been given a two-year lease on the building while it finalises its plans.
It has also secured a “substantial sum” towards the project from the Railway Heritage Trust.
