CAMPAIGNERS trying to save a village railway station from the bulldozers are to be invited to meet parish councillors to discuss their ideas for creating a new community hub.
Trimley St Mary Parish Council wants to meet the Trimley Station Community Trust before giving a commitment for financial support.
When setting last year’s budget councillors were told 5,000 might be required to help with initial costs of the project.
The trust is trying to raise 250,000 to turn the 121-year-old Victorian station and brake goods store – the last surviving Great Eastern country station – on the Ipswich to Felixstowe line into a cafe, information centre, offices and meeting room.
It has been given a two-year lease on the building while it finalises its plans.
It has also secured a “substantial sum” towards the project from the Railway Heritage Trust.
