PLANS for a 300million container port in Essex have suffered a major set-back.
The Government has announced it is calling-in the Harwich Bathside Bay planning application.
The development, which is expected to create 700 jobs, was given planning permission in 2006 but was put on hold after the economic downturn.
Last year the company behind the plans, Hutchison Ports UK, was given an extra 10 years to start work.
However, yesterday the Department for Communities and Local Government said it is launching a public inquiry into the plans, which mean the development will be delayed even longer or may not go ahead.
