MAKE changes to our home or we will have to move.

That is the plea from the mum of Mason Fountain, the seven-year-old facing a gruelling road to recovery after doctors removed part of his brain tumour.

Shelley Fountain, of Chantry Green, said her son needs a new bathroom downstairs – or he will be forced to use a commode in the family’s front room.

After the youngster was diagnosed with cancer two years ago his bedroom was moved into the dining room of the family’s council home to make his life easier.

While medics removed around half of Mason’s “naughty lump”, the operation last month has left him almost completely blind in one eye and struggling to walk properly.

Now mum Shelley fears she may have to uproot her family because her son will struggle to walk upstairs on his own even after rounds of physiotherapy.

“When Mason was on chemo we asked occupational therapy to come out and adapt the house to add stair rails, a plank across the bath and we moved Mason downstairs into the dining room,” said the mum-of-four.

“Now he is home from hospital he is having to use a commode in the living room.

“He can’t walk properly at the moment and is unlikely to be able to go upstairs by himself because of his sight.

“These changes would make a huge difference to Mason. Without them we will have to move.

“It would give him more independence and dignity.”

A spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council told The Star the authority has not refused to make the changes.

He said they have not yet received the formal request.

“We are very keen to talk to the Fountain family and occupational therapy about the changes, to hear their needs and see what we can do,” he said.
