POLICE were able to reopen a busy access route to Britain’s biggest port this afternoon after an incident in which a lorry’s trailer broke.
Trinity Avenue – the approach road to the Port of Felixstowe’s Dock Gate Two – was blocked portbound after the container slipped on its trailer and broke open.
Police were at the scene just after 1pm dealing with the incident and directing traffic.
It meant diversions for lorries and cars via Parker Avenue and Fagbury Road to reach the port.
Fork-lifts were called in to help shore up the side of the container and make a temporary repair so that the lorry could be driven off the road and into the BP garage opposite.
A police spokeswoman said the lorry was the only vehicle involved and no-one was injured.
