Breaking records is a big part of the Olympic Games.
And the last minute surge of world leaders, dignitaries and celebrities, attending the opening ceremony helped break a record at Stansted Airport on Friday.
The influx of private jets and other aircraft saw more planes parked overnight at the airport than ever before – with 165 planes staying overnight.
The previous record was 156 during the Champions League final at Wembley in May 2011.
Trevor Waldock, Stansted’s Head of Airside Operations, said: “It was an immense logistical operation and hugely challenging, but the professionalism and skill demonstrated from the various organisations at the airport ensured that everything ran very smoothly.”
