THE eastbound carriageway of the A14 will be closed to allow the Olympic torch across the Orwell Bridge after an earlier crash blocked the road in a westbound direction.
The accident happened near Wherstead at around 1pm, on the westbound carriageway.
One lane is currently closed with queuing traffic between Nacton and Wherstead.
A SUffolk police spokesman said to allow the Olympic convoy through the eastbound carriageway from Nacton to Wherstead will be closed for around 20 minutes.
“We will close the road until the convoy has passed over the bridge,” he said. “We would request motorists remain patient, it should only be in force for around 20 minutes.”
Four people were injured and received treatment from the East of England Ambulance Service. The police spokesman said none were thought to be seriously hurt.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area to allow the emergency services to clear the road as quickly and safely as possible.
The police helicopter was launched at the time to check tail backs.
