IPSWICH Town manager Paul Jewell remained guarded about transfer targets at this morning’s press conference – but did give away one vital clue.

The Blues boss has signed keeper Alex McCarthy on loan from Reading, while he is in advanced negotiations with transfer-listed Leicester City defender Sean St Ledger over a loan move with view to a permanent switch.

With his side out of both cup competitions, leaking goals at an alarming rate and just three points above the Championship relegation zone, he is keen to do much more strengthening before the January transfer window shuts.

“I spoke to two players at two different teams last night about coming here,” said Jewell. “And they said we are the best that have come to their place this season has been Ipswich.”

With impressive Town away displays at a premium this season, that narrows down the likely list of clubs to Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Cardiff, West Ham and Barnsley.
