TWO Scandinavian traillists have caught the eye of Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell.
Icelandic international midfielder Teddy Bjarnason impressed the Blues boss during his two-day trial earlier in the week and Town could now look to sign the 24-year-old from IFK Gothenburg when the transfer window opens in January.
And Jewell says that 16-year-old Swedish striker Isak Nyln – at 6ft 7in – has also stood out.
Bjarnason featured in the 3-2 reserves victory over West Ham on Tuesday, with Jewell saying: “He did OK, he did fine and played in the practice match.
“He’s at IFK Gothenburg at the moment, we’re monitoring that situation and I spoke to his agent [on Wednesday]. His contract’s up next year, so we’re going to see what the deal is.
“There’s a possibility [that a deal could be done]. They’re looking at a figure and I’ve told them we won’t pay that, so we’ll just monitor that situation.
“Their season has finished, it’s just about to start again, in February I think, that’s where we are and we can’t sign him until January anyway.”
Bjarnson played in the centre of the midfield against West Ham – but he can also play on either flank or up front.
Striker Nyln, who currently plays for IF Brommapojkarna and is still only 16, has been on trial with the academy.
“He looks like Peter Crouch!” said Jewell. “He’s a 16-year-old, he was training with the kids and I took him [to join us] and he really is like Peter Crouch. He’s not as good, so don’t get excited about him!
“We’re just having a look at him. He played for the Under-17s against Leicester earlier in the week and I think he scored a goal. When someone’s so big and so different he’s worth a look.”
