LUCIANO Civelli’s dream of fulfilling his undoubted potential with the Blues is over.
The Argentinian left winger has returned to his homeland after a mutual agreement was reached with Ipswich Town to terminate the remaining year of his contract.
The decision ends Civelli’s ultimately frustrating time at Portman Road, a two-and-a-half year spell that promised so much but was decimated by a career-threatening knee injury.
The 24-year-old, who has said his goodbyes to his Town team mates, today issued a gushing tribute to the Super Blues who never gave up on him despite a 16-month spell on the sidelines.
Civelli said: “I will never forget the supporters at Ipswich. They were fantastic to me when I first arrived here and especially when I was injured.
“I would meet fans around the town and they would always ask how I was getting on. The reaction I got when I played my first game after the injury for the first team was very special – it was an emotional moment for me.”
After such a stop-start last few years, Civelli has vowed to get his career back on track in Argentina – while also sending well wishes to Paul Jewell’s men for the season ahead.
He added: “I want to thank the medical staff at the club, the coaches, the manager and the other players. They have all been great to me and I wish Ipswich all the best for the future.”
Town boss Paul Jewell, who might now make signing a new wide-man an even bigger priority, added: “I wish Luca all the best for his career ahead.”
