THE chairman of the Environment Agency has said communities along Suffolk’s crumbling coastline will have to come up with “imaginative” solutions to the threat of erosion.
Lord Smith was guest speaker at the annual general meeting of Suffolk Coast Against Retreat (SCAR) at the Jubilee Hall in Aldeburgh today.
He told the assembled landowners, councillors and agency representatives that funding for coastal and flood defences was being squeezed this financial year.
But he said that solutions could still be found for problem spots along the coast using imaginative and innovative schemes, with funding from both the private and the public sector.
The meeting was chaired by Lord Deben, patron of SCAR, and was attended by Suffolk Coastal MP Therese Coffey.
