BOMB disposal crews sealed off a recycling plant after what was thought to be live ammunition was discovered at the site.
A bomb disposal squadron (BDS) from RAF Wittering were called in after a worker at Newmarket Recycling Centre found the brass shell around 8.30am yesterday.
Visitors waiting to use the household waste site in Depot Way were forced to queue outside the facility while an investigation took place.
On arrival, the BDS found the shell had been fired and was no longer live. It is thought the 105mm cartridge had been used as an ornament before being discarded.
