PARAMEDICS were today sent to Newmarket to help a rider who had fallen from a horse.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance was sent just after 11am to help the rider after the incident on the gallops in Bury Road.

Piloted by Captain Chris Sheriff, the air ambulance landed on the gallops and the medical crew of Doctor Ben O’Brien and East of England Ambulance Trust (EEAST) Critical Care Paramedic Jemma Varela were able to get to the injured rider who was reported to be unconscious.

The two gave the injured rider pain relief and then escorted him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge by land ambulance where he received further assessment and treatment.
