SUFFOLK’S westbound travellers face long delays this morning after a fire closed a chunk of the A14 in Cambridgeshire.
The blaze, which broke out around 3am at a recycling centre in Huntingdon, has caused the carriageway to be shut off in both directions between J16 at Brington and J21 at Brampton.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) said at 9am that restrictions were beginning to be lifted on the eastbound carriageway but the westbound route would be closed for several hours.
Thick smoke carried by strong winds is the reason the carriageway has been closed.
Sixty fire fighters from CFRS are on scene tackling the blaze and are being assisted by colleagues from Northampton and Bedfordshire. The United States Air Force are also assisting.
