IPSWICH Town chief executive Simon Clegg today refused to comment on speculation as to who the club’s next manager would be following the ‘amicable termination’ of Roy Keane’s contract.

Former Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City boss Paul Jewell saw his odds dramatically slashed by the bookmakers yesterday, while the likes of Alan Curbishley and Gary Megson have also been linked.

Town coach Ian McParland has been made caretaker manager for this Sunday’s FA Cup third round game at Premier League side Chelsea.

“We hope to make an announcement over the coming days,” said Clegg.

“I’m not going to fuel any speculation, I’m not going to deny any names that are thrown at me, there are a number of people in the frame and we will work that through.

“I’ve followed the betting odds with consderable interest.”

Asked how quickly the club would like to appoint a new manager, Clegg said: “As soon as possible, but I think is unrealistic to hope that negotiations will be concluded before Sunday’s game though.”
