NEW Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed he WON’T be in charge against Arsenal in the Carling Cup semi-final.
Wednesday night’s showcase last four match against the Gunners was expected to be Jewell’s first match in the dugout.
But he told a press conference, unveiling him as Roy Keane’s replacement, that Ian McParland would pick the team and that he would start work on Thursday.
Jewell, who will be at Portman Road on Wednesday but did not see the FA Cup drubbing at Chelsea, said: “It has been a whirlwind. I met the owner and had meetings in Ireland on Friday and Saturday.
“It is only fair that Ian takes the team on Wednesday night and I will start on Thursday morning. It is not fair for me to come in and pick a team when I don’t know the strenghts and weaknesses. That is the decision me, the owner and Simon (Clegg) have taken - it doesn’t matter that it is Arsenal.”
