FIRE crews last night fought a cottage fire after the roof caught alight.
The loft of the cottage in Mersea Road, Langenhoe, near Colchester, caught light at around 8pm.
Two crews from Colchester fire station attended the scene and used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to tackle the flames.
The 15m by 10m loft wass completely filled with smoke.
