A JOINT fire and police investigation is under way after a blaze in an Essex church.
Crews from Tiptree and Coggeshall were called to John Houghton Catholic Church in Church Road, Tiptree, shortly after 5am today.
On arrival they tackled the fire using hose reel jets. They then used a high pressure fan to clear the building of smoke.
The incident was brought under control by 5.40am.
A spokesperson for the fire service said that an investigation was being carried out to establish the cause of the incident.
