THE John Peel Centre for Creative Arts needs your vote.

That’s the message from the team behind the ambitious Stowmarket project, which will go head-to-head with another charity on television tonight.

The team will be hoping to gain enough votes from people watching the People’s Millions on Anglia News tonight to secure up to 50,000 in lottery funding.

John Spitzer is involved with the project to transform the town’s disused Corn Exchange into a vibrant arts centre, with space for live music, artist studios and a cafe for young people.

The centre could also eventually be home to a unique digital archive of all of the ex-Radio 1 DJ’s live sessions, recorded over many years.

Mr Spitzer said: “We are optimistic. We think the John Peel Centre has hit a nerve and a lot of people are in agreement and have supplied us with great feedback.

“We just really need people to vote for us and help us get the funding for the next phase of the project, which would enable the centre to host live events.”

Mr Peel’s widow, Sheila Ravenscroft, is also heavily involved and is the honorary patron of the centre.

The telephone number for people wishing to vote for the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts is 0871 626 88 03 and calls cost 10p from a BT landline.
