Emergency services were called to the A120 at Coggeshall at 5pm today where a woman had become trapped in her car and a pedestrian had been injured.
Three fire crews helped to release the woman from her vehicle using two sets of specialist cutting equipment.
A spokesperson for the Essex Ambulance Service said that one person had been flowed to the Royal London Hospital with serious injuries.
Two further people were taken to Colchester General Hospital - details of their injuries were unknown.
The crash left the road closed for more than three hours.
