AN HISTORIC form of river transport made a comeback at the weekend during a special event on a Suffolk river.
The River Stour at Bures was the setting for the annual Coracle Regatta which saw enthusiasts from across the country bring their replica round boats for a day of races and demonstrations.
Up to 20 round and flat-bottomed coracles – a type of lightweight boat that has been in use since the Bronze Age – took part in slalom courses along a section of the river on Saturday.
Coracles were used throughout the world as an early form of river, lake and coastal transport, and they are still used in Vietnam by fisherman.
