IPSWICH: Two men are believed to be due in court today on an attempted murder charge after a man reported he had been stabbed, tied up and robbed in his Chantry home.

Although police have not named the pair, it is understood they are Darren Hilling, 21, of Wellington Street, Ipswich, and Ricky Mutton, 23, of Montgomery Road, Ipswich.

They have been summonsed to appear before Ipswich magistrates today in connection with an incident in Bittern Close in March this year.

A spokesman for Ipswich police said: “A 21-year-old Ipswich man and a 23-year-old Ipswich man have been summonsed to South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court after being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in relation to the incident in Bittern Close.”

It was reported that Colin Woods, the occupant of the premises, sustained a pierced liver when he was knifed twice during an alleged burglary.

Mr Woods also had to have eight stitches in his head after apparently being smashed over the head with a bottle, leaving him covered in blood.

Hilling and Mutton were arrested by police in mid-June.

They were also questioned about the alleged assault on a man in Tern Road, which was believed to have been connected to the break-in. However, Hilling and Mutton have not been charged over the allegation.

Mr Woods, 55, was said have been attacked in the early hours of March 25.

After he was released from hospital following treatment for his wounds, he recalled the terror he felt during the break-in.

Mr Woods said: “I thought: ‘This is it.’ I thought my time was up. My heart missed a couple of beats. I feel very traumatised.”

Mr Woods was in bed watching television when the robbers broke in. He thought the noise might have been caused by his cat.

He was then tied up but after the robbers left, Mr Woods struggled free and went to his neighbour’s house for help.
