HEAVY winds have caused traffic problems across west Suffolk after trees were blown down into roads.
Incidents have been reported in places as far apart as Cavenham, Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds.
In Newmarket, at about 10am, a tree collapsed onto Bury Road, falling through the windscreen of a van. The man driving the van was taken to hospital with a head injury. A police spokeswoman said the injury was not thought to be serious.
Later, in Mildenhall, a tree was blown down outside Mildenhall Technology College.
Police say a caravan was damaged and a few vehicles had to take evasive action to avoid the tree.
At 11.10am, in Cavenham, a large branch fell down taking down a couple of power lines. EDF Energy was called out to fix the problem.
Ten minutes after the Cavenham incident, a tree was blown down in Parkway, Bury St Edmunds.
Police closed off one lane of the carriageway, close to its junction with King’s Road, while officers from St Edmundsbury Borough Council cut the tree up and removed it.
