EIGHT fire crews are currently tackling a heath fire on the edge of Ipswich.
The blaze was first reported to the fire service at just after 5pm and initially one crew from the town’s fire service headquarters was sent out to the location, between Camberley Road and Woodbridge Road, near Rushmere Golf Club.
A fire service spokesman said: “We received the first call at 5.04pm and one fire engine from headquarters was initially dispatched. They have eventually required eight fire engines to deal with the incident.
“They have come from headquarters station and Princes Street in Ipswich, needham Market and Holbrook and a command support vehicle from Woodbridge.
“At least 100 square metres of gorse is alight and firefighters are using six hose reels and one jet to extinguish the flames.”
