IPSWICH: Two men are to appear in court after being charged in connection with a burglary at a substation in which a father-of-two was electrocuted.
The pair, Adam Head, 30, of Fletcher Road, Ipswich, and Frank Day, 27, of Hawke Road, Ipswich, were arrested following the death of Johnathan Ehlert.
Mr Ehlert’s brother, Mark Vince, 24, from Ipswich, was also due to answer bail yesterday but was unable to attend, according to police, who said arrangements would be made to see him as soon as possible.
Mr Ehlert, 30, sustained fatal burns while apparently breaking into an electrical substation in Ransomes Way on April 14.
Head and Day were charged with two counts of burglary with intent to steal - one at Crane in Nacton Road, the other at the substation - when they answered bail at Ipswich police station late yesterday afternoon.
The first hearing of their case is due to be held before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 16.
All three men were arrested on suspicion of burglary on April 20.
Mr Ehlert, a former Holywells High School pupil from Fletcher Road, Ipswich, left behind his partner, Kerri Velzian, and their children, Zoe, eight, and Reece, two.
After Mr Ehlert’s death, his mother, Denise Collins, of Schreiber Road, said: “Words can’t express how much John will be missed by all his family. John and Kerri were childhood sweethearts and inseparable. The children were his life. John would do anything for them.
“He was a lovely son. We had our ups and downs, but John was always the one, who if something had to be done, he would be the one at the centre of it.
“The best way to describe my John was good was never good enough for him. He always wanted better. He was a wonderful brother. He was always worried and concerned (for his family). He was a kind, loving man.
“The last time I saw John he kissed me goodbye and told me he loved me – the same as always.”
A post mortem on April 16 confirmed Mr Ehlert had been electrocuted
Mr Ehlert’s funeral was held at All Hallow’s Church in Landseer Road, Ipswich.
