POLICE are today investigating a spate of heath fires over the weekend after firefighters were called to four separate blazes in the Martlesham area within two hours.
A considerable amount of heathland and undergrowth was burned in the fires on Saturday evening, although the firefighters from Woodbridge and the Colchester Road fire station in Ipswich were able to bring the blazes under control.
A spokesman for the fire service said they did not know what had caused the fires, but they had referred them to police investigators because of the number of blazes that had broken out so close to each other.
