THE A14 was shut in both directions near Newmarket to enable a helicopter-based paramedic crew rescue a seriously injured motorist.
The crash happened on the eastbound section of the A14 near Exning, Newmarket, at about 11.20am in which a blue Ford Escort collided with a crash barrier.
The A14 has been closed in both directions so that the East of England Ambulance can land at the scene.
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire police said the road had been re-opened and said the driver’s injuries were not as serious as first feared.
The driver involved has been taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
