POLICE are investigating after a man died in a car crash early today in north Suffolk.

After the vehicle in which the man was a passenger left the road, it was then hit by another car.

Fire and ambulance crews and police officers attended the scene on the A146 near Beccles.

The driver of the car involved in the initial accident was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston. The male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said after the car crashed, there was then a second collision when it was hit shortly after by a green Vauxhall Astra.

A passenger from that car was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Crews from Beccles and Bungay fire stations, and a rescue tender from Lowestoft, attended the incident at 2.54am.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to release one man trapped in a vehicle.

The road was still closed this morning and members of the Suffolk roads policing unit and serious collisions investigations team were at the scene carrying out inquiries.

The names of the victim will not be released until all next of kin have been informed.

Anyone who was driving in the area at the time and saw the incidents is asked to contact police on 01473 613500.
