THE future mayor of a popular Suffolk resort will today tie the knot with his long-term partner.

Julian Worster and Andrew Scrivens are having a civil ceremony followed by a small service and blessing at the White Lion Hotel, in Aldeburgh.

They are set to arrive in style in a Rolls Royce and are keeping their fingers crossed for some fine weather for photographs on the beach.

In May, Mr Worster, 52, will be officially installed as mayor of the genteel seaside town.

He and Mr Scrivens, 55, have been together for 10 years after meeting in Buckinghamshire.

They moved to Aldeburgh four years ago – although Mr Worster has a long association with the local area, having lived at nearby Great Glemham when he was a child.

The couple, who live in Alde Lane, now run a hotel consultancy business where they travel around the country looking after houses or hotels when their owners want a break.

Mr Worster, who yesterday was going through the final arrangements for today’s ceremony, said Mr Scrivens, who is a member of the local coastguard, asked him to join in a civil partnership just before Christmas.

“It just seemed to fall into place,” he said.

“Everyone has been wonderful. We have been inundated with cards and good wishes. Everyone seems to be very excited.”

He said the couple were delaying their honeymoon until the summer when they would be going to Finland.

“We wanted to wait until all the mayor- making had been finalised,” Mr Worster said.

“I am very much looking forward to being mayor.

“It is a great honour and it will be an exciting year for us both.”
