POLICE are investigating after a man needed medical treatment after being assaulted with a shopping trolley.

The 55-year-old suffered pain and bruising to his spine and legs after being rammed from behind by a trolley while shopping in the Tesco store at Anson Road, Martlesham Heath.

“The man was in the clothing section of the store when someone pushed the trolley into the back of his legs,” said a police spokeswoman.

“He fell to the floor. Other shoppers came to his assistance and the 55-year-old was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.”

The incident happened around 1pm to 1.15pm on Saturday and police are keen to trace a man described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, rough looking, with short cropped hair and wearing a green fleece who was seen walking out of the store just after a crashing sound was heard.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who saw the incident or anyone with information about the man described - they should call police on 01473 613500.
