FIREFIGHTERS have battled to contain a large gorse fire this afternoon which broke out behind a primary school in Martlesham Heath.
FIREFIGHTERS have battled to contain a large gorse fire this afternoon which broke out behind a primary school in Martlesham Heath.
The blaze at the back of Gorseland Primary School destroyed about half a hectare of land.
Suffolk County Council monitored the situation in case any near-by homes needed to be evacuated.
At the height of the fire, which broke out at 1.55pm, five pumps were on the scene.
The blaze was extinguished by 2.55pm, with firefighters on scene to dampen down.
