A TEACHER at a Suffolk school has been confirmed to be suffering from swine flu today.

The teacher at St Alban's Catholic High School in Ipswich tested positive for the virus yesterday, NHS Suffolk said.

The school has remained open however, on the advice of the Health Protection Agency.

Suffolk County Council and NHS Suffolk said they would monitor the situation closely.

The teacher is one of 13 people in Suffolk who have been confirmed as carrying swine flu since the global pandemic began in May.

The Health Protection Agency has advised anyone who develops flu-like symptoms to stay at home, limit contact with other people and ring their GP or NHS Direct on 0845 4647. Each case will be assessed and, if necessary, testing and treatment will be provided.

NHS Suffolk said it could not say if the teacher was male or female, but added they were believed to be recovering at home.

A spokeswoman for NHS Suffolk said the teacher has picked up swine flu “from a family member visiting Suffolk from another part of the UK.”
