THE boy who died in the tragic accident in the River Stour is believed to be six-year-old Alan Lock.
The youngster, who was part of the 1st Acton and Waldingfield Scout Group, was pulled from the river during a Beaver activity trip last night.
Investigations into how the tragedy occurred have begun following the incident, which took place on an isolated spot of the River Stour in Sudbury just before 7.30pm.
The youngster was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds where he later died.
Although police have not yet released the name of the boy, it is thought he is from Acton, near Sudbury, and goes to the village primary school.
