A BURST water main has caused minor disruption in an Ipswich street.
Work is currently being carried out by Anglian Water engineers on a burst water main in St Margaret's Plain at the corner of Northgate Street. Earlier today a build up of pressure underground meant that water spilled out onto the road while they were fixing it.
A spokesman for Anglian Water said the burst in the three-inch pipe occurred on June 2 but as it was classified low priority, engineers set about to work on it today. To avoid switching off water to customers, an Anglian Water spokesman explained that engineers decided to fix it “live”.
He said: “The three-inch pipe links in with a 15-inch pipe. We could have turned off the 15-inch pipe so there was no water for some customers but we decided to fix it live which meant we kept the water on. There was a lot of pressure so some spilled out on the road.”
It is hoped it will be fixed as soon as possible.
