A PENSIONER died in hospital this morning after a car crash in Clacton left her fatally injured.

Doris Cornwall, who lived in the resort, was in collision with a silver Mercedes Vito people carrier in Station Road at about 1pm yesterday.

The 68-year-old was taken to Queens Hospital in Romford after the crash but could not be saved.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 47-year-old man from the Clacton area, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving and has been released on police bail until August 18.

Pc Roger Manser, of Stanway Road Policing Unit, said that the location of the accident - close to the junction with Pallister Road - was a busy area of the town and that he hoped more witnesses would be able to come forward.

“At that time of day the area would have been very busy with pedestrians,” he said.

“Although we have spoken to a number of people, we are anxious to trace anybody else who may have seen anything.

“I would ask anyone that witnessed this incident or who feels they have evidence that may assist the inquiry to contact us at Stanway Road Poling Unit.”
