A BOMB scare was triggered after a man dug up what were believed to be two anti-tank mines in Martlesham Heath.
The scare began when the resident of Horseman Court unearthed the devices at 6pm yesterday.
Emergency services were alerted by the man who had reportedly taken one of the suspected bombs back to his home.
Army disposal specialists from Colchester Garrison, who had been on another call-out in Thetford, went to the scene while residents were asked to stay in their homes.
On arrival they confirmed it was not a bomb although they were not able to say exactly what it was.
The bomb disposal team took the mystery item back to the garrison with them.
