A DISGRACED Suffolk-based Territorial Army major has admitted five charges of fraud - less than two years after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman.

Major Colin Morris, 45, based in Bury St Edmunds, admitted the charges which relate to making claims for expenses to which he was not entitled to on the Army's Joint Personnel Administration system.

He has pleaded guilty to five charges of fraud involving money totalling about 9,000. It comes less than two years after he was found guilty following a four-day court martial trial near Salisbury, Wiltshire, of sexual assault against a woman.

At the time of the assault he was serving in the Adjutant General's Corps and was attached to the 43 Wessex Brigade.

He sexually assaulted the woman by clasping a grape between his teeth and trying to force it into her mouth, it was reported. The court martial cleared him of another charge of sexual assault against the same woman.

Major Morris was fined 2,500 and ordered to pay the woman 2,000 in compensation. He was also given a severe reprimand and ordered to pay 500 in costs.

The major left the regular army and joined the Territorials as part of the 6 Regiment Army Air Corps in Bury St Edmunds.

But on March 30, he pleaded guilty to five charges of fraud involving money totalling about 9,000.

He will appear at Colchester Courts Martial Centre on April 29 where the facts of the case will be put to a judge and five senior Army officers. He is expected to be sentenced on May 1.

The 6 Regiment Army Air Corps is a Territorial Army regiment based in Bury St Edmunds, which has one squadron of ground crew. It trains and provides Territorial Army ground crew for Apache helicopters based at Wattisham Airfield.
