A man who barricaded himself inside his Ipswich home threatening to harm himself with a gun has been charged with possessing a firearm without a licence.

Steven Frost, 44, of Parnell Road, Ipswich is due to appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court tomorrow charged with one count of possessing a firearm without licence and another of possessing amunition for a firearm without licence.

Frost was arrested at his home after a six-hour stand off with armed police officers.

Police negotiators were called in following reports Frost was allegedly armed and threatening to harm himself.

Officers were first called to the incident at 12.45pm yesterday. The police helicopter was also called into action in the skies above the area.

The road was cordoned off at the junctions with Macaulay Road and Defoe Road.

It is understood Frost was alone in the building.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: “After speaking with police negotiators the man gave himself up. “He was detained by officers and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

“The incident came to a peaceful conclusion and no one was injured.”

He said the incident came to an end at about 8pm.
