A Needham Market care home resident has become one of the first centenarians to receive a birthday card from King Charles III.

Eddie Tye, who has lived at Uvedale Hall since June, celebrated his 100th birthday recently.

He is registered blind but still enjoys Suffolk life by listening to BBC Radio Suffolk and has a talking newspaper every week to catch up on all the local news and features.

"Eddie had to wait a few weeks for his card to arrive because of the Queen's passing, but was very proud to be one of the first people to receive a 100th birthday card from the new monarch," said home manager Suzanne York.

The card features a picture of King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort, and is signed by both of them.

On Eddie's birthday, the staff at Uvedale Hall arranged a country and western day featuring a visiting entertainer and a cake made by the chef team.

Ms York added that Eddie is a "wonderful man" and said: "We feel very lucky to care for him at Uvedale."
