One Indian restaurant in west Suffolk has been shortlisted for an award at the 'Curry Oscars'.

Montaz, which is found in Newmarket, has been nominated for the Best Restaurant - East Midlands category at the British Curry Awards.

The 18th annual ceremony will welcome the UK's leading curry restaurateurs to an awards show later this month.

This year, the awards will be held in honour of British Curry Awards founder Enam Ali MBE, who passed away earlier this year.

Recently, Montaz restaurant, in Old Station Road, received the Suffolk BME Business of the Year award for Catering in 2019.

Ziaur Choudhrey, who runs Montaz with his business partner and nephew Golam Mobin, said the win gave the business "local recognition" and was a "great achievement".

Jeffrey Ali, director of the British Curry Awards said: "Whilst the international community, especially the UK, faces a continued onslaught of economic uncertainty and political instability, we take solace from the general public who continue to support local businesses such as their local curry restaurants.

"As a consumer forward award platform, our goal is to promote the best in Britain, bringing real value to our nation’s customers.

"We have received tens of thousands of nominations this year and look forward to announcing the results of our months-long judging process and live vote due to be held at the biggest and most anticipated ceremony on the hospitality calendar.”

The British Curry Awards will take place at Evolution London, Battersea Park, on Monday, November 28.
