Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has teamed up with a Suffolk hospital to launch an urgent appeal for medical supplies for Ukraine hospitals.

Mr Johnson has worked with St Edmunds Hospital to provide vital items to hospitals in Ukraine.

St Edmunds Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, is one of 54 other hospitals to help send equipment to the war-stricken country.

The Suffolk hospital has also made a renewed commitment to continue supporting Ukrainian medics for as long as the crisis continues.

A spokesperson for St Edmunds Hospital, said: "Everyone here has been moved by the terrible events unfolding in Ukraine and we and the community in Bury St Edmunds are proud to renew our commitment to medical colleagues in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Lviv and Kherson."

Mr Johnson said: "The Great British public is renowned for their generosity of spirit, even when times are tough at home, so I'm calling on them to dig deep this Christmas and help send hope to the heroic Ukrainian medics."
